October Book Release Update

Published October 3, 2014 by jnaomiay

Facebook is telling me that it’s been 23 days since my last post.  I realize I’ve been quiet lately, but to tell you the truth, it’s because I’ve been hiding under my bed.  It’s cramped down here, especially with Smokey sharing half the space.  The ceiling height, which is just really the bottom of my box spring, is not very high either, making it extremely difficult to type.

Why am I hiding under my bed, you may ask?  Or, you may not.  You may not care at all what I do.  In any case, I will tell you it is because I am living in fear of terrorists, ebola, enterovirus 68, and because the rock upon which my domicile resides is currently under a Boil Water Alert for the second time this week.

Of course, if you are living in Cali, you’d probably be thrilled to have a Boil Water Alert.  Boiling water is certainly better than having no water at all.  This reminds me of a story from the annals of family history regarding a previous great Cali drought in 1896 or thereabouts.  This was coupled with a turned-over cart of laboriously grown watermelon, malaria, and a few other maladies and crises common to 19th century west coast pioneers.

Those of you who are SpaceNavy Cadets may recall that I have used a similar scenario in not one but two books.  If you know one of those two titles where a melon cart flipped over, PM me and I’ll grant you a reward.  Probably, it will be an audiobook code of your choice from the selection I have available.

And, speaking of audiobooks, My Enemy’s Son is due to arrive in retail outlets shortly.  In fact, it’s been more than the requisite three weeks that ACX normally requires.  They’ve initiated a Trouble Ticket to find out why the heck it’s not live yet, as apparently it’s been lost in the Matrix.  It’s very good though.  In fact, Rebecca A. Reynold’s renditions of all the characters are simply amazing.  You’ll be able to check it out with your KU account or purchase it at all your favorite audiobook shops.  If you haven’t listened to Rebecca’s narration of The Boy, definitely go get that first.  Oh!  Rebecca has also started working on Book 3, Of Blood & Angels.  Hopefully, we’ll have that out of the Matrix on the virtual bookshop shelves by next spring.

In addition to the audiobooks, I will have a short story releasing later this month or early next month as part of an anthology.  Three lovely and talented ladies and I have teamed up to produce a collection of stories from several different genres but all relating to murder, men, and midnight.  My story is titled Space Shopper, and yes, it does relate to murder, men, and midnight since space is just a vast expanse of midnight, no?  The whole book should be a lot of fun and it will be either free or bargain basement priced so that everyone can enjoy it.

Also on the proverbial drawing board is Book 16 of The Two Moons of Rehnor series.  It’s almost half way done so if all things stay the same, it should be released in December 2014.  For those of you who have read Fairy Tales, you will note I took a step backward and diverted from the main story line in that one.  This one, which is still unnamed, will return to the main story line, and quite possibly finish it.  But…and this is BIG BUT, as I have said this twice before.  It depends.  As my author friends out there all know, the story lines are dictated by the voices in our heads, which preclude any rational decision making.  If said voices decide they’re not done, then, they aren’t.  If I decide to remain beneath my bed for the rest of my life, unable to cope with the disastrous realities of Planet Earth, I may keep writing tales of Senya and Rehnor forever and ever.  If you want to read them, it’s up to you.  If you don’t, as my beloved and late mother always said when I turned up my nose at her lovingly prepared platter of roasted beef tongue, T ma nishtana? which technically means, What has changed? But in our family colloquialism was actually defined to mean, So what?  You don’t like how I slaved all day in the kitchen for you?  Fine.  Don’t do me any favors by eating it.

However, all that being said, I do intend to put a period on the end of book 16 and try to divert my attention to the spin off series The Angel Complex, and/or Time Tripping Adventures, and/or something else.  A preview of Book 16 is posted on my website www.jnaomiay.com and I’ve also put it in the back of Fairy Tales.

So that’s it from SpaceNavy Command.  Onward and upward, tally ho, and all that.  If you are in the once great, US of A, only a month until voting day, and I encourage you to exercise your civic duty by getting out there and voting every one of those bastards out.

SdK Board Meeting – May 2014

Published April 26, 2014 by jnaomiay

SdK Corporation Board Meeting May 2014

Location:  New board room in the rebuilt SdK Tower

Attendees:  Naomi, Jim, Steve, Rent, Katie, Gabe, Arsan

Jim bangs the gavel and calls the meeting to order.

Jim: Thanks for coming everybody.  I know you all had to quickly rearrange your schedules, but Naomi thought it was important that we have a quick discussion before she goes on vacation.

Gabe:  Oh, that’s nice, Naomi.  Where are you going?

Naomi:  Maui.

Ooohs from around the table.

Katie:  Is that dickhead going with you?

Naomi:  If you are referring to Mr. Ay, then, yes.  He’s coming too.

Katie:  You know who I mean.

Naomi:  Yes, I do, Katie, and if he wanted to join us, I’m certain Mr. Ay would be pleased to have him along.  They both would enjoy each other’s company immensely, sitting on the lanai, drinking beer, smoking cigs, and watching the 24 hour football channel.

Katie (under her breath):  There’s no accounting for Mr. Ay’s taste.

Steve:  Where the Big Guy anyway?  How’d he manage to get excused from this meeting?

Jim: He sent a note saying he’s busy.

Naomi:  Actually, he’s off seeking something he can’t quite reach, searching for something he can’t quite find, and doing whatever needs to be done to secure permission to destroy the universe.

Ooohs from around the table.

Rent:  Do you think he’ll get it?  The permission, I mean.

Jim:  Naomi?

Naomi (shaking head):  I don’t know.  It’s quite possible.

Katie:  Right.  And, it’ll be up to me, again, to prevent it.  I should get a bonus for every time I’ve had to save the universe from him.

Gabe:  Actually, the rest of us might have a hand in it too, right, Naomi?

Naomi:  Yes, dear, but we are getting ahead of ourselves.  The purpose of this meeting is to discuss Book 14, Betrayal.

Katie (snorts) Yep.  That’s apropos.  Good name choice this time, Naomi.

Naomi:  Thank you, Katie.  I want to announce that Betrayal has just passed the censors and will be ready for publication much earlier than I originally anticipated.  However, the censors have taken it to task and although it is chock full of provoking thoughts, as well as the usual collection of fruits and nuts, it is much shorter than I anticipated.

Steve:  What does that mean?

Jim:  It means they blacked out a lot of stuff.  It wasn’t politically correct.  The Rossorian Defense Alliance has lodged a complaint against us for blatant prejudice and bigotry toward Rossorians.  We don’t have a Rossorian on our board and we don’t allow Rossorian cloaks as part of our office dress code.

Rent:  I don’t have any problem with their clothes.

Steve:  Yeah, some of those dudes are butt ugly.  It may be better that they’re all covered up.

Jim:  Orange is totally the wrong color when it comes to our new décor.

Naomi:  In any case, it means that a significant amount of the text has been blacked out of the book.  Instead of our usual 52000 word count, Betrayal has been reduced to 5.

Rent:  5 what?  5 pages?

Naomi:  No.  5 words.

Steve:  The whole book is 5 words?

Jim:  Yes.  Unfortunately, because of our overhead, we’re still going to have to sell it for $4.99.  This means it’s practically $1 per word.

Ooohs from around the table.

Jim:  But on a happy note, Amazon will like that.  It reduces their delivery costs.

Naomi:  At any rate, I’m going to release it around May 6, right before I go to Maui.  Hopefully, by then, our legal team can find a loophole to allow all 52,000 words to be published.

Ooohs from around the table.

Gabe:  Sounds lovely, Naomi.  Have a restful vacation.  Are you taking Princess Sara?

Naomi:  No.  I’m leaving her home.  In fact, she’s one of the reasons I’m going.  Teenagers, you know.

Steve:  Yeah.  Teenagers are a pain in the ass.

Arsan:  (jolting awake) What?

Steve:  Starting with you, junior.

Katie:  Leave him alone.  He’s positively angelic compared to you.

Arsan:  (smiling)  Thanks, Gra…

Katie: Don’t say it!  I don’t ever want to be called that.

Rent snickers.

Jim adjourns the meeting.

February Book Release Update

February Book Release Update

The first graphic novel/comic book has finally been released!  Thanks to the fabulous artistic talents of illustrator Elizabeth Gottlieb, you can now read about Senya in a whole new way.  As those of you familiar with the series will discover, this is just the first part of the first chapter of The Boy.  Hopefully, if all goes well, we shall be able to release another issue before summer.  You can find it on Amazon only right now.  Here’s the link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I9IE678

Book 12, Rivalry was released in early January and is available everywhere, or should be.  Here’s the link for that: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HR53ORM

Things are looking bad in the Empire.  In fact, it’s questionable whether or not the Empire can even exist at this point.  After reading Rivalry, be sure to check out my “Who is Arsan” quiz posted on my website www.twomoonsofrehnor.com.  You’ll find it in the Fun & Gear page.  I’m curious to hear your theories.  Just for participating, I’ll give you your choice of audiobook, including Thad’s Mistakes, Space Doctor, Black Gold, or the newly released Caissa’s Favor.  If you complete the quiz and are expecting an audiobook code from me, please be sure to check your spam as it seems a lot of my emails are ending up there.  And, speaking of Arsan, do I know who he is?  Yep, and you’re going to be surprised.

Book 13, as of yet unnamed, should be ready sometime in late March.  If you’re in the later books in the series, you can see that I’m switching between the Korelesks, the Kalika-hahrs, the young kids, and a few others at this point.  In 13, we’re back to dealing with the Korelesks, and they’re primarily Steve and Rent’s problem although as usual, there will be a few new characters and HIM and HER will be there too.

Coming in late March, as well, will be The Boy who Lit up the Sky audio book.  Voiceover artist R.A. Reynolds is doing a fantastic job with it.  You’ll love her voices.  Afterward, she plans to tackle My Enemy’s Son.  I’m very much looking forward to both.

Lastly, for your friends and family who haven’t yet started the series, The Boy who Lit up the Sky is currently free on Amazon and everywhere else.  I don’t know how long this deal will last so don’t wait.

All the best,

Now available at an ebook store near you: Imperial Masquerade

Published October 29, 2013 by jnaomiay

Two years ago, the Imperial Couple disappeared with neither a trace nor body to be found.  While struggling to keep the ship of state afloat, Steve and Rent are forced to deal with the decline of the Empire, the bankruptcy of SdK, an impending nuclear war, and worst of all, a destructive fire in the Palace which levels the Seven Nags Pub.  In the meantime, a strange boy and a black eagle appear in Karupatani reminding the old timers of both a boy and an eagle from years past.  Who are they and why have they come?  Has Senya returned, or is this someone else?
