Naomi’s Meeting with Senya

Published March 23, 2014 by jnaomiay

I am gravely concerned over some recent reviews we have received, and perplexed by the perception communicated in them.  To that end, I have had to set up a meeting with Senya in order to get his advice on how to deal with this most serious situation.  I have scheduled the meeting to take place at the local Starbucks during the midmorning, after the early coffee rush, and before the lunch crowd, so as not be disturbed.  Only the ever present and overly loud hip hop music playing on the speaker system disrupts the otherwise calm atmosphere.

Naomi:  Over here, dear.  I have already got your coffee, a venti black drip, your favorite.

Senya:  (sitting down in the overstuffed chair across from Naomi)  Thank you.

Naomi:  Would you like something to eat too?  A raisin roll or chocolate donut perhaps?

Senya:   No.

Naomi:  I don’t think they allow smoking in here.  State regulations and all that.  You’ll need to put that out.

Senya blows a puff of smoke into the air.  A guy in a green apron comes over.

Starbucks guy:  You’ll need to extinguish that, mister.

Senya drinks his coffee, ignoring the Starbucks guy.  He takes another drag on his cig.

Starbucks guy’s eyes roll back in his head.  He sways on his feet a few moments, before jolting awake.

Starbucks guy: Whoa!  More coffee, dude?

Senya:  Go away.  What do you want, Naomi?

Naomi:  Don’t be cruel, darling.  He’s only trying to do his job.

Senya exhales more smoke into the air.

Naomi:  (picking at a tiny piece of lint on her shirt)  It’s the reviews.  I’m terribly concerned.  After all this time, we’re getting a spate of reviews saying that the book is about pedophilia.  Obviously, it’s not.  Of course, it’s not.  You dispatch the evil bastard in the first chapter.  Extremely well done for a six year old, I might add.

Senya drinks his coffee.

Naomi:  And, the whole point, of course, is to demonstrate what sort of horrid world you came from, to show a contrast to what Rehnor would become later on under your stewardship.

Senya takes a drag on his cig.

Naomi:  There’s also the contrast to Katie’s world, her simple, ordinary, suburban existence on Earth, so carefree as compared to your daily fight to survive.

Senya:  And your point is?

Naomi:  Oh, I don’t know.  (Naomi fumbles with her napkin)  I guess I was just trying to say that this world is full of evil.  Bad things happen to good people, and all that.  There are no unicorns and lollipops, sunshine and rainbows.  We must always be on our guard, vigilant, fighting against the monsters in society, and sometimes, in ourselves.

Senya tamps out his cigarette.

Naomi:  And, Mr. Ay says in the next book I should have you do some yard work.  How do you feel about mowing the lawn or shoveling dirt?

Senya:  I despise yard work.  Are we finished?

Naomi:  Yes. dear.

Senya leaves.

Naomi:  Good talk, dear.  Thanks for that.  I knew you could bring some clarity to the situation.

Fan Gear Poll

Well, the consensus on my last poll seems to be that you, my beloved fans, would like t-shirts as fan gear.  Therefore, I am now asking you to complete yet another poll regarding what you would like to appear on said t-shirts.

October Book Release Update

Published September 29, 2013 by jnaomiay

Alright, I know it’s not quite October but in the event the government shuts down and all life as we know it comes to an end, I’m going to get my upcoming schedule out early.

YES, there will be another book and YES, it will be a Two Moons of Rehnor Book 11.  Thanks to everyone who voted in my poll.    I’m going to leave the poll up on my websites for a while longer just for fun.

Now, about Book 11.  I’m not saying who is in it and who is not.  That’s not entirely clear yet.  As you all know, Senya is in Bora Bora having a well deserved vacation and his people and my people are still ironing out the details of his new contract.  Whether or not that will get resolved by the time I’ve finished book 11, I truly can’t say.  This whole healthcare issue has turned into quite a sticky wicket.   Our negotiations may go on for several months which means, we could be at book 15 or so before we have some resolution.  I’m not saying that’s going to be the case, but it could be.  I’m just warning you.

At any rate, the working title of book 11 is “Renaissance”  and you can interpret that how ever you want.  I’m shooting, well, not actually shooting anything as I still don’t know how to use the shotgun that’s at the top of the closet, but I digress.   Rather, I am aiming for a release date prior to Thanksgiving which is mid to late November for those of you outside the US.

I’m also hoping for a  pre-Thanksgiving release of The Two Moons of Rehnor #1 Graphic Novel.  I should have more pics to share with you this week on this one.  It is looking fantastic and so much fun to see the characters almost come to life which actually brings to mind another point which I must tell my legal experts to reinforce.   They must remind Senya and his attorneys that he does not, in fact, exist without me.

The only other item on the horizon right now is Caissa’s Favor coming to audiobook, also aiming for mid November.

So that’s where we are, although for a short while I will be in Portland, OR attending the Pacific Northwest Booksellers fair with my friend and illustrious bookcover illustrator Robert W. Cabell.   If you happen to be there, do come by and say hello.

New Release Updates!

Published August 17, 2013 by jnaomiay

There’s a lot on the agenda in the next few weeks so stay tuned for all of these new things:

Book 10 – officially titled Space Chase will be released in early September.  The first draft is done.  I’m plodding my way through the second draft and plan to have it off to the Editrix Extraordinaire by the end of the month.

The Two Moons of Rehnor #1 Graphic Novel – Also, in the works.  The very talented illustrator Elizabeth Gottlieb is busy inking away.  Afterwards, she’ll be coloring (not with crayons but with photoshop) and then, we’ll release it up to Amazon.  It looks like  #1 will be about 24 pages, many with multiple panels and will get about half way through Chapter 1 if you are following the novel.

Space Doctor is currently cranking through ACX’s system and should be loaded and for sale as an audiobook before the end of the month.  Kevin Goulet narrates this very funny tale and his interpretation of Jerry Waldman and his angst had me rolling on the floor.  In preparation for the release, I’ve reduced the price on the Space Doctor ebook to 99 cents.

Thad’s Mistakes is also in production as an audiobook, this one narrated by the very talented Kirk Hanley.  This, too, had me rolling on the floor with laughter as Kirk brought Thad and his mistakes to life.  Look for this one sometime in September.

Caissa’s Favor – Kirk and I are jointly working on narrating this novelette with Kirk doing Zork and Dave and me, of course, voicing Katie.  If this goes well, we’ll take a stab at turning The Boy into an audiobook too.  Look for Caissa’s Favor on Audible around the end of September.

Black Gold is also currently in production as an audiobook.  Kirk Hanley is doing this one as well.  I’m keeping him very busy as you can tell.  Look for this one in all the usual retail places sometime in mid September.

Lastly, when Space Chase is wrapped up, it’ll be time to start tripping again with the Time Tripping Adventures #2.  Tentatively, I’m planning for Mona and Bitsy to jot off to England circa 1484.  Who knows, maybe they’ll figure out what really happened to the lost princes in the Tower.
