Facebook is telling me that it’s been 23 days since my last post. I realize I’ve been quiet lately, but to tell you the truth, it’s because I’ve been hiding under my bed. It’s cramped down here, especially with Smokey sharing half the space. The ceiling height, which is just really the bottom of my box spring, is not very high either, making it extremely difficult to type.
Why am I hiding under my bed, you may ask? Or, you may not. You may not care at all what I do. In any case, I will tell you it is because I am living in fear of terrorists, ebola, enterovirus 68, and because the rock upon which my domicile resides is currently under a Boil Water Alert for the second time this week.
Of course, if you are living in Cali, you’d probably be thrilled to have a Boil Water Alert. Boiling water is certainly better than having no water at all. This reminds me of a story from the annals of family history regarding a previous great Cali drought in 1896 or thereabouts. This was coupled with a turned-over cart of laboriously grown watermelon, malaria, and a few other maladies and crises common to 19th century west coast pioneers.
Those of you who are SpaceNavy Cadets may recall that I have used a similar scenario in not one but two books. If you know one of those two titles where a melon cart flipped over, PM me and I’ll grant you a reward. Probably, it will be an audiobook code of your choice from the selection I have available.
And, speaking of audiobooks, My Enemy’s Son is due to arrive in retail outlets shortly. In fact, it’s been more than the requisite three weeks that ACX normally requires. They’ve initiated a Trouble Ticket to find out why the heck it’s not live yet, as apparently it’s been lost in the Matrix. It’s very good though. In fact, Rebecca A. Reynold’s renditions of all the characters are simply amazing. You’ll be able to check it out with your KU account or purchase it at all your favorite audiobook shops. If you haven’t listened to Rebecca’s narration of The Boy, definitely go get that first. Oh! Rebecca has also started working on Book 3, Of Blood & Angels. Hopefully, we’ll have that out of the Matrix on the virtual bookshop shelves by next spring.
In addition to the audiobooks, I will have a short story releasing later this month or early next month as part of an anthology. Three lovely and talented ladies and I have teamed up to produce a collection of stories from several different genres but all relating to murder, men, and midnight. My story is titled Space Shopper, and yes, it does relate to murder, men, and midnight since space is just a vast expanse of midnight, no? The whole book should be a lot of fun and it will be either free or bargain basement priced so that everyone can enjoy it.
Also on the proverbial drawing board is Book 16 of The Two Moons of Rehnor series. It’s almost half way done so if all things stay the same, it should be released in December 2014. For those of you who have read Fairy Tales, you will note I took a step backward and diverted from the main story line in that one. This one, which is still unnamed, will return to the main story line, and quite possibly finish it. But…and this is BIG BUT, as I have said this twice before. It depends. As my author friends out there all know, the story lines are dictated by the voices in our heads, which preclude any rational decision making. If said voices decide they’re not done, then, they aren’t. If I decide to remain beneath my bed for the rest of my life, unable to cope with the disastrous realities of Planet Earth, I may keep writing tales of Senya and Rehnor forever and ever. If you want to read them, it’s up to you. If you don’t, as my beloved and late mother always said when I turned up my nose at her lovingly prepared platter of roasted beef tongue, T ma nishtana? which technically means, What has changed? But in our family colloquialism was actually defined to mean, So what? You don’t like how I slaved all day in the kitchen for you? Fine. Don’t do me any favors by eating it.
However, all that being said, I do intend to put a period on the end of book 16 and try to divert my attention to the spin off series The Angel Complex, and/or Time Tripping Adventures, and/or something else. A preview of Book 16 is posted on my website www.jnaomiay.com and I’ve also put it in the back of Fairy Tales.
So that’s it from SpaceNavy Command. Onward and upward, tally ho, and all that. If you are in the once great, US of A, only a month until voting day, and I encourage you to exercise your civic duty by getting out there and voting every one of those bastards out.
