I’m back home in the miserable Northwest experiencing the joys of winter where the sun is purported to appear between 2:07pm and 2:12pm exactly every third Tuesday until spring. At that point, it will start appearing on Wednesdays as well. Visiting me today is author Pam Funke who is here to talk about her new book The World at War which is a continuation of her Four Horsemen series.
Naomi: Let’s start with just a brief synopsis of your book. In 20 words or less, tell me what it is about.
Pam: The World at War is a continuation of my Four Horsemen series. It is about the rise of the Anti-…
Naomi: Sorry Pam. I had to stop you there. The rules specifically state 20 words or less. It’s very important we follow the rules.
Naomi: Well…you never know what might happen. Could be something terrible…dreadful. (Naomi shudders.)
Pam: Oh. My explanation doesn’t make sense now. May I please just finish what I was trying to say?
Naomi: Alright, but you understand you’ll be completely responsible if something horrible happens because of it.
Pam: I’m okay with that. I was saying, the book is about the rise of the Anti-Christ and the havoc that he creates that spirals the world into World War III.
Naomi: And this all happens because you didn’t observe the 20 word limit.
Pam: What happens?
Naomi: World War III of course.
Pam: No. It has nothing to do with that. It’s far more complicated.
Naomi: (looking doubtful) Rules are rules. At any rate, let’s move on. Who is your favorite character and why?
Pam: My favorite character would have to be Serenity Lambert. Although she is not quite sure of herself and where she stands, whose side is she choosing (good vs. evil), she is seeking to find the truth. She is a lot like many real people in life with their journey to find God. Although she makes many mistakes along the way, she refuses to give up. She keeps right on persevering.
Naomi: If Ms. Lambert called you up tomorrow and said, “Hey, let’s go do something.” What and where would you go with them?
Pam: As Serenity is an adventurous person, we would probably go to a theme park and hit the many rollercoasters.
Naomi: Even if the world was pummeling into chaos?
Pam: Well, but it’s not yet so it’s okay to have some fun.
Naomi: And rollercoasters are kind of metaphorical, don’t you think?
Pam: (Looking confused) Sure, Naomi. If you say so.
Naomi: Do you do anything else besides write and if so what is it?
Pam: Besides reading and writing, I enjoy photography, cooking, painting, drawing, scrap-booking and anything creative actually.
Naomi: What’s in the bottom of your purse, backpack, attaché or whatever you carry?
Pam: My Nook, an IPod and tons of pens.
Naomi: (gasping for breath) A nook??? I can’t believe it. I finally found the one person that owns one. What’s your favorite game? Would your favorite character play it and be any good at it?
Pam: My favorite games are anything with Mario in it. Honestly, I can picture Serenity actually playing the game and having a good time doing it.
Naomi: Well! That’s incredible because I just so happen to have Super Mario Galaxy here on my Wii. I write Science Fiction, you know. Shall we go at it?
